Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Business Ethics

We believe in distancing ourselves from certain practices in the industry that are somewhat prevalent in some larger HVAC companies and franchises who actually need to use such practices to support their large fleet of trucks, equipment, office personnel and other forms of overhead and maintain their high profit margins.

I'm talking about aggressive upselling of equipment, or using pressure tactics to sell add-on equipment, or telling a client they need parts they really don't need. 

Some companies will send a tech out who says you need x, y and z - and need it today!  If you hesitate, the tech will call his shop and they will actually send out a sales closer to try and pressure you into the purchase.  Those franchise operations hold weekly sales pep-talk meetings for their techs instructing them how to upsell and their techs usually have sales quotas and or sales bonuses.

There is a difference between ligitimately offering a selection of equipment models and features to choose from OR using pressure tactics to coerce a client into buying the most expensive model or making a purchase they're really not sure of. 

Example:  Unless someone in your family has respiratory problems, the majority of folks really don't need a $1,200 (or more) air filter sold to them.  There are models that come very close to the same efficiency levels of the high-end models that sell for right around $200 and work very well for the average family.

At Air-Smart, we're in business to make a profit - yes I said to make a profit.  Making a fair profit is necessary and beneficial to both the client and Air-Smart.

That's because when we offer our clients a fair deal and then follow that up with performing the technical aspects of installation and maintenance operations well, you benefit by having long term trouble free equipment operation and knowing you've paid a fair price and didn't get taken advantage of.
