MY FURNACE / AC DOESN'T START UP - WHAT SHOULD I DO?
|
Sometimes a simple reset is all you need instead of calling the service man to come out. Here are some simple checks you can do yourself.
For a furnace that doesn't start:
- Check the Thermostat to make sure it's functioning - does it need new batteries?
- Make sure the Thermostat setting is on the HEAT mode and the FAN is set to AUTO.
- Flip the electric switch off, then back on. It's normally mounted on the side of your furnace.
- Check the furnace CIRCUIT BREAKER in your electric panel - flip the breaker off, then back on to reset.
- On older units, verify the pilot light is burning, you should be able to see the flame. Newer units have electronic flame ignition, therefore no visible flame.
- If the above all check out, Call Air-Smart
For an AC that doesn't start:
- Check the Thermostat to make sure it's functioning - does it need batteries?
- Make sure the Thermostat setting is on the COOL mode and the FAN is set to AUTO.
- Check the AC (double) CIRCUIT BREAKER in your electric panel - flip the breaker off, then back on to reset.
- If flipping the AC circuit breaker doesn't do anything, wait 5 minutes and flip it to off and then back on again, this gives the compressor time to reset.
- If the above all check out, Call Air-Smart.
